Our Educational Farm

Discovery
of the Heritage of Rural Abruzzo

Our farm at Sapori di Bea is located in Abbateggio, Pescara. Its key objectives is to strengthen the bonds between today’s younger generations and their rural territory that is all around them. We aim to pass on our knowledge of our land and our traditional practices. In its promotion our project is called:

“At school on the farm … to discover the heritage of rural Abruzzo”

This is a project where the countryside, as well as being presented and utilised as a place of food production, also becomes utilised as a location for meetings, exchanges and other events in order to protect tradition and our rural culture.

The Project

The aim is to develop a course of education to benefit children at primary and secondary level education, to provide them with a knowledge of the vast wealth of our agricultural heritage of Abruzzo, including a knowledge of the various products and farming techniques.

A course of education that has dual purpose of both providing them with an understanding and knowledge of their surroundings but also to bring about a feeling of belonging and sharing of these values and our heritage.

The course will be provided through activities taking place within our farm, which will form specifically tailored and prepared educational packages for children depending on their age.

Objectives of the Project

  1. Promote a greater level of knowledge and understanding amongst the younger generations of the heritage of Abruzzo’s rich agricultural products
  2. Strengthen the sense of belonging to our territory
  3. Promotion and education of agricultural production within our territory
  4. Provide a greater understanding of true, natural flavours and healthy eating
  5. Re-establish the link between our rural and urban cultures

On the farm the children will have the opportunity to see firsthand the stages of a number of different production chains for our products. They actively participate in their learning, by taking part in these stages and by doing so come into direct contact with the heritage of the typical products of our region.

The beauty of natural products means that experiences will vary with seasons. Depending on the different seasons you can pick olives and accompany them to the mill for pressing, participate in harvesting, processing milk into cheese, assist in the extraction of honey, production of flour, pasta and traditional desserts.

In addition, they experience our gardens, the orchard, the processing of pig meat and sheep farming.
